One Kings Lane Vintage Sale


This season has been one of the best for my favorite past time...vintage and antique shopping!  The cities of California I must admit harbor some of the best collectors, vendors and items.

Garage sales, estate sales, antique sales, going out of business sales, everything and anything that your heart can image sales! 

My eye and my taste make me gravitate directly to art.  Italian, French or American are my strong suits. I love to browse, research and then take the best deal.  It is like an emotional rush when looking through the works of art and having to decipher which ones will resonate with potential clients, One Kings Lane lovers and especially myself.

Orchids de Oro

My good friend and owner of the fabulous Orchids De Oro Tom Henry is featured in the current November/December issue of Veranda!  











I have worked with Tom on many of my projects and his work is exquisite.  One of my other hobbies is working with orchids, bromelaids, succulents, etc at the end of my projects and he has the most rare and exotic of all of the above.  

His shop in Los Angeles is an oasis with sculptures, vessels and containers that he imports from China.  He just came back from China and his new shipment will be arriving in January. 

I can't wait!!!

Happy Thanksgiving! (some notes & ideas!)

For most of us Thanksgiving is more about tradition than novelty.

Regardless of this, here is a helpful hint and some recipes that could make for a different Thanksgiving experience.  

Existential Thanksgiving Question

To stuff or not to stuff?

Most of us grew up with some sort of stuffing.  A mixture of bread and spieces, a heartier blend of meat, nuts and spices or some other concoction might have been the inner filling of that roasted bird.

The real question however is how do you prepare it?  

Recently I spent an evening with friends while a food enthusiast made me rethink how most of us prepare our turkeys and stuffing.
 Most of us that stuff that huge bird while cooking it at the same time are doing it all wrong, especially if it is something that needs a higher temperature to cook and kill bacteria (i.e meat).  When you do this you are prolonging the time the Turkey is in the oven (because the temperature needs to reach such high levels on the inside as well) 
and thus dries the bird out! 

Cook the stuffing outside then place it inside once the turkey is done!

Now you can have your stuffing and not a dry Turkey (you know no one likes that)



Vegetarian Choices?

Some of us (a lot more of us in Southern California) have vegetarian friends who sometimes feel left out during these meat-filled holidays.

Some ideas to spruce up your holiday banquet!

It’s turkey time everyone!!  

This season I think one of the easiest ways to get into the season, the most practical when hosting those pant-unbuttoning meals is a beautifully decorated table.  There is little better than an a detailed and decorated feast.  Imagine yourself in the cornucopia that graced that first Thanksgiving table.  

The colors, smells and flavors that delighted those early pilgrims.  

Today I am feeling the urge to give you all some creative and relatively simple ways to decorate your home and table for the fast approaching season.  Would love to hear your ideas as well!  Leave them as comments!
